The Fergus Falls boys’ soccer team traveled to Pelican Rapids on Friday afternoon for a 3:00pm contest with the Vikings on a rainy day.  The Otters had 14 shots on net to 7 by the Vikings.  Fergus Falls won the game, 3-2, with Aidan Godwin getting the start in net.  “Aidan and our defense played very well today,” commented Fergus Falls Head Coach Joel Heikes. “We started strong and came out and controlled the ball well.”

At the 22-minute mark, Ryan Nelson took a corner kick from the left side sending a beautiful ball to the far side of the goal where Jose Rodriguez got his head on it for the goal.  Less than a minute later Shane Zierden sent a beautiful through ball to Zane Kollman who took a touch and was able to score his first varsity goal, putting the Otters up, 2-0.

In the second half, the Otters continued to control and the defense was not giving any opportunities for a shot.  At the 60-minute mark Nelson took a free kick and sent it to the right side of the net where Rodriguez got his head on it, sending it across the net where Shane Zierden pushed it to the back of the net, making the score 3-0.  Pelican was not ready to give up yet.  At the 70th minute they scored on a breakaway.  Then, just 8 minutes later, with only 2 minutes left in the game the Vikings were able to bring it to a one score game.  The Otter defense stood strong though and was able to keep the Vikings out for the last two minutes.

The Otter JV also had a good game.  The Otters scored first as Drew Johnson got the scoring started.  Drew was able to score again and Sawyer Talley also scored in the contest.  They lost 4-3 but played a solid all-around game.
