The Breckenridge/Wahpeton Storm participated in the Dale Skallerud Memorial Cross Country Meet in Hawley on Friday afternoon with the Nuggets winning the girls’ competition with 39 points and Kindred scoring 33 points to win the boys’ tournament.  The Storm placed third in the girls’ race and tenth in the boys’ event.  Lucie Comstock and Kiera Wiertzema paced the Breck/Wahp girls’, finishing fifth and seventh, respectively.  Noah Berge was the top boys’ runner in 27th place.

“There are two constants for the Breckenridge/Wahpeton Cross Country team,” stated Head Coach Larry Lasch.  “The first is the weather will not give them a break.  Secondly, the girls’ team will consistently compete at a high level.  Thursday afternoon the team battled rain squalls and gusty winds that blew team tents across the Hawley Golf Course like tumbleweeds.  The BW Storm girls were without Addi King, who has been a steady top runner for the Lady Storm, and still placed fifth out of 14 scoring teams and 117 runners.  I challenged my girls to step up and Aubrey Bosen and Ashlyn Haire answered the bell, running season best times.  The kids ran really good times on a sloppy course.  Lucie and Kiera really stepped up their game in the large field of runners, while Gracie Falck and Jasmyn Benedict both broke into the top 40.”
