M State sophomore Ellia Soydara has just complete a historic fall golf season for the Spartans.  Soydara was the medalist in 5 of the 6 tournaments in which she competed, finishing as runner-up in the other.  “Ellia’s play was outstanding this fall,” acknowledged Spartan Head Coach Jason Retzlaff.  “It has been such a pleasure watching the improvement form a year ago as her confidence continues to grow.”

Soydara broke the following records for women’s golf at M State:
Lowest scoring average (75.9 – 10 rounds)
Lowest single round scoring record (66 at the Spartan Invitational)
The round of 66 at the Spartan Invitational also broke the women’s individual low round record for Pebble Lake Golf Course in Fergus Falls
Lowest two-day score of 137 (68-69) at Valley City State Invite
Most rounds carded in the 60’s (3)

“These things haven’t happened by accident as nobody works harder or is more prepared for a round than Ellia,” noted Coach Retzlaff.  “Her performance has shattered numerous Spartan records, but what is so impressive is that she accomplishes these things while being an even better student and human being.  She will certainly have an opportunity to play more golf after M State.  In the meantime, I know the simulator will get a lot of use this winter and we look forward to coming back for more spring golf and Chautauqua in June.”

Based on her 1st team All-American status from her freshman year, Soydara has qualified for the NJCAA Division III National Tournament at Chautauqua, New York from June 4-7, 2024.  Soydara finished 4th individually at the national tournament in 2023.
