The West Central Area volleyball team hosted BOLD on Tuesday night in Barrett, with the visitors taking the match in 4 sets, 22-25, 25-12, 25-19, 25-16.  “The gym was packed for the home side tonight and the home team certainly had the energy and the momentum for the first set,” reported West Central Area Head Coach Missy Foslien.

Foslien recapped the match as follows, “Keeping within 3 points and maintaining the lead throughout much of the game was key to the Knights winning set one.  Mya Foslien had eight kills just in the first set. BOLD was out of system and did not seem to get their offense going until the next set. Set two was a different game, the Warrior’s outside hitters came to life and we had a difficult time even getting a touch on the block. Several times we just could not get our hands on the ball to slow it down, it makes it very difficult for our backrow players to even have a chance. By the end of set two Izzy and Whitney were at least getting touches. At the end of the set, Mya Foslien passed her 1000th career dig. Heading into the third set, the Knights were not about to give up. Set three was a close match with the Knights leading at times, 12-9, and 15-13, even at 17-14. We let them gain the lead with several errors in a row, and got down 17-21. When you let a team like BOLD get the lead, it’s very hard to fight back, they are that strong of a team. Set four was much the same. We were tight with them until 12-13; then they went on a run of six points. We gave them too many easy looks, meaning if you don’t go at them aggressively, they are going to come back at you with power. Without a solid block it was just too difficult for us to fight back. We have some learning and growing to do as we prepare for our final games.”

Statistical leaders for the lady Knights were Foslien (18 kills, 13/15 serving, 2 aces, 6 digs, 2 blocks), Macy Grosz (28 set assists, 12/13 serving, 1 ace, 14 digs), Madi Fagre (6 kills), Jaclynn Nelson (5 kills, 1 block, 3 digs), Madelyn Westrom (11/11 serving, 1 ace, 13 digs), Whitney Westrom (10/10 serving, 2 aces, 2 kills, 10 digs), Izzy Puchalski (11/121 serving, 1 ace, 2 kills, 8 digs), Alaina Sykora (6/8 serving) and Sophie Sanstead (3 digs).

The Knights face Minnewaska Area on Thursday.
