The Barnesville football team ran their record to 5-0 with a 52-0 home field victory over the Warroad Warriors.  The Trojans have now outscored their opponents 192-35 through five weeks of the season.  Barnesville had 341 (221 rushing, 120 passing) total yards and held Warroad to 98 (48 rushing, 50 passing) total yards and just 4 first downs.

All of the scoring took place in the first half.  Major Ness scored the first TD of the night on a one yard run and Ethan Larson got into the end zone on a five yard run with a conversion run by Cameron Halverson giving the Trojans a 14-0 lead.  Asher O’Brien broke loose for a 42 yard TD run, increasing the lead to 20-0.  A blocked punt by Nic Robideau led to a 32 yard return by Jay Tschumperlin and a conversion pass from Zach Bredman to Jack Maesse, giving Barnesville a 28-0 halftime advantage.

O’Brien’s 50 yard punt return for a TD in the second quarter put the score at 34-0 and a 4 yard run by Bredman made it 40-0.  Ness then returned an interception 30 yards for another score and Larson’s 8 yard TD run finished the scoring at 52-0.

“We had a very nice first half, made a lot of plays, executed well and came out healthy,” assessed Barnesville Head Coach Bryan Strand.  “We only ran 20 offensive plays in the first half, but scored on a blocked punt, punt return and an interception return for a TD.  Warroad requested running time with around 5 minutes to go in the first half and we agreed, so the remainder of the game flew by.  The backups all came in and played well and we got out of it healthy.”

Fourteen different players carried the football for the Trojans win O’Brien gaining a team high 60 yards on 3 touches and Larson carrying 4 times for 37 yards.  Bredman added 34 yards on 3 carries and Halverson had 2 attempts for 30 yards.  Bredman completed 4-of-6 passes for 120 yards.  Peyton Amundson (2 catches, 73 yards) and Ness (2 catches, 47 yards) were the top receivers.

Defensively, Collin Morey had 3 solo tackles, 3 assisted tackles and a sack, while Christian Lien also recorded a sack.  O’Brien forced a fumble and Avery Schroeder had a fumble recovery.  Ness had an interception and Levi Eickenbrock had 2 solo tackles and 5 assisted tackles.

“This week we will need to get ready for a very good Park Rapids team that beat Hawley last night in a thriller that came right down to the wire,” added Coach Strand.  “We should be getting Gannon Bolgrean back this week which should help us on both sides of the ball.”
