The Fergus Falls boys’ soccer team recorded a 6-1 victory in Detroit Lakes on Thursday.  Shane Zierden scored five goals and assisted on the final goal of the night.  “This was a much needed section victory for the Otters,” stated Head Coach Joel Heikes.

Zierden’s first goal of the night came off a very nicely placed free kick from Marshall Fellbaum.  Zierden got his head on the ball, flicking it in for the goal at the 20 minute mark.  Just two minutes later Jadan Heikes stole the ball from a Laker and passed it through to Zierden for his second goal.  Shane wasn’t done as in minute 24 he took the ball and dribbled in on the goalie to complete his pure hat trick.  Just before halftime, Ryan Nelson sent a beautiful cross to Zierden who took the shot which bounced off the goalie and Shane was able to get his own rebound and finish, making the score 4-0 at halftime.

Eight minutes into the second half Marshall recovered the ball from an opposing player and passed it ahead to Jose Rodriguez who setup Zierden for his fifth goal of the night.  At the 52 minute mark, Nelson sent in a corner kick that bounced around in front of the net, went off Zierden to Aiden Schake who was able to put it away, putting the Otters up, 6-0.  At the 73 minute mark the Lakers were able to use their speed up front to get a through ball and score their only goal of the contest.

Kile Beck got the start in net and due to the good defense did not see too many shots, but did have a couple of very good saves,” noted Coach Heikes.

The Fergus Falls JV team led 2-0 at the half with Isaiah Lawson scoring both goals and Leo Schierer making some amazing saves.  The second half saw the Lakers score 5 unanswered goals to post a 5-2 victory.
