Hancock Volleyball Weekly Recap

It’s been a busy week for the Hancock volleyball team.  The Owls competed in the Hawley Tournament last Saturday where they played four matches, lost a Little Eight Conference match to Parkers Prairie on Tuesday, 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-16) and rebounded for a 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-16) LEC victory over Rothsay on Thursday night.

At Hawley, the Owls lost to BGMR 2-0 (28-26, 25-20), lost 2-0 (25-9, 25-9) to Detroit Lakes, beat Frazee 2-0 (25-19, 25-17) and lost to Lake of the Woods 2-1 (25-17, 24-26, 15-8).  Stat leaders for the tournament were Kaylynn Christianson (6 kills, 2 block assists, 3 digs), Kaitlyn Rohloff (6 aces, 10 kills, 11 digs), Misti Zempel (10 aces, 26 kills, 2 block assists, 25 digs), Eva Schaefer (2 aces, 5 kills, 16 digs, 4 assists), Kaitlyn Staples (2 aces, 4 kills, 54 assists, 9 digs), Brooke Ver Steeg (21 kills, 3 block assists), Abigail Nuest (3 aces, 10 digs) and Rylie Mattson (1 ace, 6 assists, 18 digs).

In the loss to the Panthers, Hancock was led by Zempel (2 block assists, 9 digs, 5 kills), Ver Steeg (2 kills, 1 ace, 1 block assist), Schaefer (7 digs, 1 block assist), Rohloff (3 digs, 2 kills, 2 aces), Mattson (11 digs) and Staples (4 digs, 2 kills, 9 assists).

Leaders in the win over the Tigers were Mattson (18 digs, 3 aces), Staples, 8 digs, 21 assists), Rohloff (5 digs, 8 kills, 2 aces), Schaefer (4 digs, 3 kills, 1 ace), Zempel (9 digs, 12 kills, 1 ac, 1 block, 1 block assist) and Ver Steeg (1 block, 2 block assists, 2 digs, 3 kills).

Hancock (5-11) will participate in the Bertha-Hewitt Tournament on Saturday.
