Thursday, the Brandon-Evansville Chargers hosted the Underwood Rockets in a Little Eight Conference volleyball match. “This was a hard fought battle on the part of both the Chargers and the Rockets with powerful attacks, great digs, and great defense all around,” reported B-E Head Coach Gina Christopherson.

“It was a back and forth game all night and could have gone either way,” reported Underwood Head Coach Breck Grove.  “Brandon is aggressive and scrappy so it was very exciting. We had a balanced attack again last night and our defense began to click as the game went on.  Our girls played in 3 matches this week, two of which were five sets.  I am so proud of them for being able to find a way to win at the end of a full week of volleyball against good competition.”

The Rockets were led by Kallyn Grove (13 kills, 36 assists, 16/16 serves, 10 digs, 2 blocks), Liz Lukken (19 kills, 14/15 serves, 21 digs, 1 block), Mily Albjerg (6 kills, 15 digs, 3 blocks, 11/13 serves), Sia Olson (9 digs), Brooklyn Christianson (10 kills, 8 assists, 29/31 serving, 2 aces, 7 digs, 2 blocks), Ezrah Baker (8 digs, 1 block, 8 kills) and Katie Hess (10 digs, 9/11 serving, 1 ace).

The Chargers took the lead in set one and held on to win 25-17. The Rockets rallied in set two winning 25-17, but the battle for the night was not over. The Chargers pushed forward in set three coming away with the win 25-21 with some amazing saves, great setups, and hard attacks.

Set four proved to be a back and forth battle of wills but ultimately the Rockets took the lead and finished up 25-17. That brought in set five. The Chargers went out and took the lead but through a series of small errors the Rockets caught up. At 12-12 it was a fight, point by point, to the end of the match. The Rockets rallied to win, 17-15.

"I am proud of our girls for never giving up and fighting hard for each point,” said Coach Christopherson. “Kylee Dingwall's attack from all over the court was instrumental in keeping the Rockets on their heels. Add in dynamic blocking from Skylar Bitzan, Drea Fernholz, Taylor Dingwall and Haddy Baune and we were able to throw them out of system. Our digs and tight cover from Taylor Suchy, Kylee Dingwall, Taylor Dingwall, Ava Santjer, and Hallie Richter were game changers for sure. Tonight we showed what we are capable of doing as a team. No. We didn't come out on top, but we did come out knowing that we don't give up."
