Alexandria Boys Soccer Team Fall to Willmar 5-1, Defeat Sauk Rapids-Rice 2-0

The Alexandria boys’ soccer team traveled to Willmar on Monday for the Cardinal clash, won by the home team, 5-1.  They followed that loss with a 2-0 victory on Tuesday over Sauk Rapids-Rice in Alexandria.  The Cardinals are now 6-3-3 on the season and travel down I-94 on Saturday for a match against St. Cloud Cathedral.

In Willmar, Alexandria fell behind 4-0 at the half.  The lone goal for Alexandria came in the 45th minute of play from Otto Anderson who was able to finish a ball from Grayson Grove on a free kick.  The Willmar team was able to secure one more goal ending the match. 

The Gatorade of the Game went to Otto Anderson who found the Cardinals lone goal and was a consistent, dominant force for the Cardinals attack.

With back to back games, the Cardinals showed up strong in the first half on Tuesday, putting goals on the scoreboard in the 13th and 26th minutes of play. Otto Anderson scored first with the assist coming from Cole Haabala. The second goal was from Cole Haabala with the assist coming from Rylan Hovde

The Gatorade of the Game went to Senior Captain Grayson Grove for his return to the pitch and his first shutout in the 2023 season.

The Cardinals were also able to celebrate and honor our 12 Seniors at the final home match: Thatcher Brown, Grayson Grove, Cole Haabala, Rylan Hovde, Henry Klecker, Samuel Diaz, Wyatt Marshall, Jestin Masteller, Isak Rhen, Dawson Roderick, Luke Tiegen and Sam Williams.
