The A-B-E Bolts ran at Bertha-Hewitt tonight. It was an absolutely beautiful night for a race. The weather is finally a little cooler and it was a beautiful course to compete on. The last couple meets have been bigger so it is nice to get a confidence boost with a couple smaller meets (tonight and this coming Saturday in Wheaton).

Both the boys and the girls finished second. B-H has a phenomenal boys team that runs great. They are setting themselves up for great things this year. The fact that our top guys were close to them gives us confidence that we can be with one of the best runners in the area. Many of the team set personal bests and looked stronger than they have in the past. Kenneth, Micah, and August really had solid performances and used each other throughout most of the race. Benjamin and Nathan ran together and competed hard. This was Nathan's second varsity race and he is still learning when to use his energy. With Benjamin competing with him, they make a great pair. Cohen ran strong. He has personal goals that he's trying to overcome and tonight he crossed another barrier to reaching them.

On the girls' side, there are also some great runners. Caroline and Kendra are both very talented and Lauren worked to stay with them as long as she could. Similar to Nathan, it was Lexi's second varsity race this year. She started conservatively, but worked her way up the pack the entire race. After the first lap, I think she realized she had a good chance to place and really turned it on. She gave a great effort to reach the top 5. Ashley,  Naomi, and Vy have all been plagued with being unhealthy with ailments, but they persevered through it tonight and all looked stronger and better than they have in a long time. Hope and Mary were also able to find a new rhythm tonight.

We run again on Saturday in Wheaton.

Bertha-Hewitt claimed the boys’ championship with a perfect score of 15.  A-B-E was second with 54 points and LPGE took third with 66.
