Cowgirls Survive 5 Set Match with Underwood

The Breckenridge Cowgirls hosted the Underwood Rockets in a high school volleyball match on Monday night.  The two teams battled for five sets with the Cowgirls taking the match 3-2 (23-25, 25-19, 25-22, 20-25, 15-9).

The Cowgirls were led by an extremely efficient serving game, serving 97% (101/104) as a team with 7 aces.  Leading the way with 100% efforts were Parker Yaggie (28/28, 2 aces, Katlyn Kaehler (23/23, 1 ace), Hailee Hanson (12/12) and Sydni Roberts (11/11, 1 ace).  Kolle Schuler (14/16) led the team with 3 ace serves.  Grace Nicholson with 12-for-13 on the line.

Yaggie distributed 38 set assists and Schuler added 13 set assists.  The attack was led by Kaehler with 19 kills.  Erin Blaufuss and Hanson were also in double digits with 15 and 12 kills, respectively.  Blaufuss also had 3 solo blocks and a block assist, while Hanson delivered 1 solo block and 4 block assists.  Julia Kleisman contributed 9 kills and 3 block assists.  Defensive leaders were Hanson (23 digs), Roberts (21 digs) and Yaggie (16 digs).  Schuler added 11 digs and Kaehler had 10.

“Breckenridge played a good game and we had moments that were not characteristic of our typical play,” commented Underwood Head Coach Breck Grove.  “We got rattled at times and didn’t respond like we would have liked to have.”

The Rockets were led by Brooklyn Christianson (15 kills, 14 digs, 19/20 serving), Liz Lukken (13 kills, 19/19 serving 1 ace, 33 digs), Ezrah Baker (13 kills, 16/19 serving, 11 digs), Mily Albjerg (13 kills, 15/15 serving, 17 digs), Kallyn Grove (49 set assists, 15 digs, 9 kills, 14/14 serving) and Katie Hess (12/13 serving, 12 digs).  Sia Olson added 8 digs.

Underwood will host Battle Lake in a Little Eight Conference contest on Tuesday and the Rockets will head to Evansville to face Brandon-Evansville on Thursday night.
