The M State men’s golf team won a triangular at Maple River Golf Course in Mapleton, North Dakota of Friday with a team score of 330.  Mayville State was second with a 341 and Turtle Mountain Community College finished third with a score of 401.  Nathan Hillman was the medalist, winning a two-hole playoff against teammate Erik Bjorndahl.  The two tied for the low score of the day with 79’s.  Ellia Soydara of the Lady Spartans was the women’s medalist, shooting a 76.

“It was great to see Nathan and Erik shoot in the 70’s today,” commented Spartan Head Coach Jason Retzlaff.  “Nathan was solid all day and hit the ball very well.  I was happy to see it come together for him.  Erik had a tremendous back nine and really played with confidence.  Our team is showing some good depth as we head into the stretch run of the fall season.”

Charlie Fuder came in with an 80, Markus Nelson an 81, Riley Stromlund an 82, Brock Thompson an 87 and Adam Vatnsdal a 90 to complete the scoring for M State.

Soydara easily outdistanced the field with her 76 as Haley Blixt of Mayville State came in second with a 96.  Soydara has now won medalist honors in five of her 6 events this season.

“Ellia continues to play excellent golf,” noted Retzlaff.  “An unfortunate lost ball on the 18th kept her from having a lower score, but she gave herself a lot of birdie chances and converted on five of them today.  It has been an outstanding stretch of golf for her.”

The Spartans will next compete at a dual meet with Valley City State next Friday at Village Green Golf Course in Moorhead.
