Sauk Centre knocked off West Central Area in 3 sets, 25-21, 25-22, 25-21, in a high school volleyball match on Thursday night.  “it was a fun night of volleyball on our home court,” said Head Coach Missy Foslien.  “The Knights worked incredibly hard against the Mainstreeters.  We came to play, we knew would have to fight for every point.  Sauk has an incredibly deep group of athletes.  They can hit hard out of every position.  We made some incredible plays, cut it close in every set, but came up short.”

Mya Foslien came into the night with 16 kills to go to break the school record of 903 career kills, set by Tana Lohse back in 2006.  She established a new record with 17 kills in the match.  “Her team did a fantastic job of giving her the ball,” noted Coach Foslien.  “I think they wanted her to get it at home and they were so happy for her.”

The lady Knights had a tremendous serving night, missing only one serve the entire match and finishing 65-for-66.  Top servers were Macy Grosz (15/15), Foslien (13/13), Madelyn Westrom (10/10), Whitney Westrom (10/10, 1 ace), Izzy Puchalski (9/9, 2 aces) and Alaina Sykora (8/9).

Grosz distributed 30 assists and had 15 digs.  Madelyn Westrom led the team with 26 digs and Whitney Westrom added 16.  Foslien picked up 11 digs.  Joining Foslien as top hitters were Madi Fagre with 10 kills, Puchalski with 5 and Jaclynn Nelson with 5.

“We struggled in serve receive in spurts, which cost us,” noted Coach Foslien.  “You cannot get behind against a team like Sauk Centre.  We know that we grow through games like this.  We will just keep plugging away and fine tuning for the rest of the season.”

West Central Area will head to Parkers Prairie on Saturday for an eight team tournament.
