Breckenridge ran for 362 yards on Friday night and handed Pine River-Backus a 49-12 loss. The Cowboys had 393 total yards and recorded 24 first downs in the game. Defensively, Breckenridge had 3 interceptions and a fumble recovery, while allowing 236 total yards.
The Cowboys led 7-0 after one quarter as David Erlandson scored on a 24 yard run. Bailey Evans added the PAT kick for a 7-0 lead.
In the second quarter, Pine River-Backus scored on a 2 yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 7-6. Breckenridge then took a 13-6 halftime lead on a 26 yard TD run by Evans.
The Cowboys increased their lead to 20-6 early in the third quarter when Jacob Kunkel ran the ball in from 50 yards out and Evans added the extra point kick. Pine River-Backus made it 20-12 with a 2 yard TD run. Breckenridge then scored on a 1 yard run by Paul Armitage and a two-point run by Erlandson for a 28-12 advantage.
The Cowboys scored their first of three fourth quarter touchdowns on a 7 yard run by Erlandson and added an Evans extra point kick, giving them a 35-12 lead. Lawson Oliphant scored on a 13 yard run to kick the lead to 41-12 and Logan Church returned an interception for the final TD of the game. Riley Kappes carried the ball into the end zone for a two-point conversion and a 49-12 victory.
Armitage led the rushing attack with 126 yards on 24 carries. Erlandson added 95 yards on 11 attempts, Oliphant ran for 68 yards on 6 carries, Kunkel had 50 yards on his only carry and Evans ran the ball twice for 30 yards. Cooper Roberts hauled in 3 passes for 36 yards and Evans completed 3-of-7 passes.
Defensively, Churck , Aidan Sanchez and Erlandson each had an interception. Jaxon Bolte recovered a fumble and Brian Martinez recorded a sack. Erlandson led the team with 7 tackles.
The win was the first in four games for the Cowboys. They will now play at Parkers Prairie next Friday night.
