The Fergus Falls girls’ tennis team traveled to Willmar for a Central Lakes Conference and Section 8AA matchup on the courts. The Otters took the match 6-1 over the Cardinals.

We had great play all around today.  Isabella Abrahams and Ruby Ellison made pretty quick work at top of the singles lineup, while Ali Bredenberg hustled out a great win at 4th singles for the Otters.  Ali found herself down a set 6-3 to her very consistent opponent tonight.  Ali did a great job of digging in and battling her way through the second set before getting the break to earn the set 6-4 and force a decisive third set tie-break.  Ali took control of the super tie-breaker and earned the match with a 10-2 final set.

The Otters finally get to take to their home courts again next Tuesday, September 26 at 4:30pm in a huge rematch against the Alexandria Cardinals.  This match has many implications for our team collectively and as individuals moving forward into playoffs.

In doubles action, our 1st and 3rd doubles teams of Hattie Fullhart/Ashtyn Lill and Dillyn Lill/Carsyn Lill made pretty routine work of their matches, both winning in straight sets.  Both of these teams are playing pretty consistent tennis right now and tonight was no different.  The match of the day was played by our second doubles duo of Hannah Anderson and Clara Stephan.  Hannah and Clara had a tight, back-and forth first set that they ended up dropping 6-4.  They started slow in the second set as Willmar was playing some pretty clean tennis throughout this set.  They found themselves down 5-2, one game from dropping the match, when they turned the momentum in their favor and never looked back.  They rattled off 4 straight games to earn a 6-5 lead before dropping a game to force a second set tie-break.  The pair handled the close tie-break to earn the second set 7-6(7-5).  This forced a decisive third set to determine the match.  Hannah and Clara played a very clean super tie-breaker to earn the match 10-7 in the final set.  This was a great comeback and win for these girls who are playing so well at this point in the season.
