Rashad Madden ran for 91 yards on 11 carries and found the end zone 3 times on Saturday as the M State Spartans posted a 42-7 victory over Minnesota North-Vermilion in Ely.  M State had 188 rushing yards and 246 passing yards on the day as they improved their season record to 2-1.

The Spartans took a 7-0 first quarter lead when quarterback KJ Cooper connected on a 9-yard TD pass to Jaion Slaydon-Brown and Jaydon Manteufel added the extra-point kick, his first of six in a row on the day.

Minnesota North-Vermilion tied the game with a touchdown pass and PAT kick, but after that, it was all Spartans as they scored three more first half touchdowns to put the halftime score at 28-7.  Madden scored on a pair of 5 yard runs and Marquan Tucker hauled in a 35 yard TD pass from Cooper.

Madden's third TD run came in the third quarter and linebacker Sam Tagg, who was inserted into the game as the backup quarterback, scored the final touchdown on a 2-yard run on 4th and goal to end the third quarter.

Cooper completed 10-of-22 passes for 214 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also ran for 19 yards on 3 attempts.  Slaydon-Brown had 10 carried for 46 yards and Tagg ran the ball 3 times for 10 yards.  JC Johnson led the receivers with 121 yards on 3 catches, including a 63 yard completion that set up Madden's final TD of the day.  Tucker had 4 receptions for 80 yards and a score.

M State will travel to play Dakota State JV in a non-conference contest at noon on Sunday.
