Owls Dominate Trojans 56-6

Led by an explosive offense and a stifling defense, the Hancock Owls dominated the Ortonville Trojans on Friday night, recording a 56-6 victory.  Hancock had 508 (371 rushing, 137 passing) yards of total offense and 24 first downs, and held Ortonville to just 88 (16 rushing, 72 passing) total yards and 4 first downs.

The Owls scored the only TD of the first quarter when Titus Bjerketvedt hauled in a 24 yard pass from Brady LuthiChase Evink’s two-point conversion run gave Hancock an 8-0 lead.

Luthi’s 7 yad TD pass to Hudson Versteeg and another two-point conversion run by Evink put the Owls ahead 16-0 early in the second quarter.  The Owls recorded a safety for an 18-0 lead and increased their lead to 26-0 on a 16 yard Luthi to Nathan Kellenberger pass and a two-point conversion pass from Luthi to Donovan Curfman.

In the second half, Luthi hooked up with Versteeg on a 16 yard TD pass and Evink again toted the ball into the end zone for the two-point conversion, increasing the Hancock lead to 34-0.  A 13 yard run by Evink and a two-point conversion run by Luthi put the score at 42-0.  Ortonville got on the board with a 65 yard TD pass to make it a 42-6 game.  Riley Miller pushed the lead to 48-6 with a 33 yard touchdown run to end the 3rd quarter with the Owls leading 48-6.

Troy Messner scored the final TD of the night on a 2-yard run and Jace Meierding ran the ball over the goal line for the two-point conversion and a final score of 56-6.

Luthi completed 9-of-19 passes for 102 yards and 4 TDs.  Evink ran for 170 yards on 15 carries and Bjerketvedt (3 catches, 38 yards, TD) and Kellenberger (3 catches, 30 yards, TD) were the leading receivers.  Defensively, Versteeg and Owen Kieffer each recorded a sack and Kieffer led the team with 7 tackles.
