Battle Lake Wins 5 Set Match with Hancock

Battle Lake hosted Hancock in Little Eight Conference Volleyball on Thursday and the Battlers survived a 5-set match with a thrilling 20-25, 25-22, 19-25, 25-20, 15-13 victory over the Owls.

“This was a big win tonight against a good, athletic Owls team,” said Coach Heather Akerman of the Battlers.  “The girls played hard form beginning to end and I couldn’t be more proud!  Thank you to our amazing fans for giving us the extra energy needed to finish the 5-set battle.”

Battle Lake was led by Sophie Akerman (25 digs, 6 kills, 5 block assists, 16/16 serving, 2 aces, 25 assists), Kenady Cameron (11 kills, 11 digs, 5 block assists, 1 solo block, 17/19 serving, 2 aces), Kinley Bormann (11 kills, 3 block assists, 16/16 serving, 3 aces), Kalie Robinson (12 digs, 17/1 serving, 2 aces), Molly Durbin (26/26 serving, 4 aces,7 digs), Maddy Cameron (14 digs, 7/8 serving, 3 kills), Olivia Love (7 digs) and Belle Boyum (5 kills, 2 block assists).

Hancock was led by Brooke Ver Steeg (15 kills, 1 block, 1 block assist, 1 ace), Kaylynn Christianson (3 kills, 1 block, 1 block assist), Kaitlyn Rohloff (7 digs, 6 aces, 1 block assist), Kaitlyn Staples (32 assists, 2 aces, 2 kills, 3 digs, 1 block), Eva Schaefer (10 digs, 3 kills, 1 ace), Misti Zempel (28 digs, 15 kills, 1 ace) and Rylie Mattson (25 digs, 2 aces, 1 kill).

Battle Lake (5-6) is at Pelican Rapids Tuesday and at Brandon-Evansville Thursday.

Hancock (2-7) will participate in the Hawley Tournament on Saturday and will have road matches at Dawson-Boyd on Monday and at Ashby on Thursday.
