Border West Compiles 517 Yards in 46-28 Win Over Hancock

The Border West Buccaneers compiled 517 yards of total offense, 331 on the ground and 186 through the air, as they recorded a 46-28 victory over Hancock on Friday night.  Brody Nachbor ran for 260 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead Border West.  Quarterback Marshall Tolifson completed 13-of-18 passes for 186 yards and a pair of TDs.

Tolifson connected with Tucker Blume on a 28 yard TD pass to give the Bucs an early 6-0 lead.  Nathan Kellenberger scored on a 22 yard pass from Brady Luthi to tie the game at 6-6 after one quarter.

Nachbor’s first TD run covered 18 yards early in the second quarter and the Bucs led 12-6.  On the ensuing kickoff, Titus Bjerketvedt went 83 yards and Chase Evink scored on the two-point conversion try as Hancock took a 14-12 lead.  Jude Olson hauled in a 79 yard touchdown reception near the end of the first half, giving Border West an 18-14 advantage at the break.

A 2-yard TD run and successful 2-point run by Evink gave the Owls a 22-18 lead early in the third quarter.  A 69 yard run by Nachbor made it 24-22 in favor of Border West and a Tolifson run of 21 yards, followed by a successful 2-point conversion put the lead at 32-22 after three quarters.

Hancock pulled to within four points at 32-28 when Luthi hooked up with Bjerketvedt on a 21 yard pass.  Border West scored the final two touchdowns of the night on runs of 46 and 37 yards by Nachbor.

Evink led the Owls with 134 rushing yards on 21 carries and Luthi completed 6-of-15 passes for 75 yards.  Bjerketvedt caught 3 of the passes for 36 yards.  Hancock finished with 206 total yards (136 rushing, 70 passing).  Evink led the defense with 7 tackles.

Defensive leaders for Border West were Olson with 6 tackles and Holden Rinke with 5, including a sack.

Border West (1-1) will host Rothsay on Friday in Wheaton.

Hancock (1-1) will play at Ortonville on Friday.
