“Overall, our team ran spectacular on a challenging and hilly course,” commented Border West Head Coach Brittany Erickson. “Our times continue to get better as the season progresses. They are understanding that it's important to get out in the front of the pack and slowly work their way up the field.  Raelyn Wiegman was out in 18th place and starting to pick off runners for a 5th place finish in the junior high race and Karissa Anderson was the junior high champion. We had a few kids who were going for PRs and were just seconds over which makes me wonder what they would have run on a flatter course.  Our next event is a charity run with the Ortonville cross country.  Ortonville is running from Ortonville to Clinton and the Border West team is running from Graceville to Clinton to raise awareness about memory loss and Alzheimer's for the Big Stone Memory Loss Committee/Group.”

“It was a great night to run,” said Ashby-Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Robert Bosma. “All last week, we focused on the difficulty of the race with the hills. Because of that, the team was prepared for the challenge and ran very well. Some of the athletes dropped their time by over a minute from the previous week on an easier course. This proves the determination of the team and their mindset going into competition. We were missing a couple of key varsity runners with illness or being hurt, but I was pleased with the team standings. Had we had some of the others run (and be healthy), we might have jumped a place or two.”

Coach Bosma of A-B-E said, “Lauren Thoennes ran a fantastic race. Her goal has been to crack the top ten in a race and she finally did it last night. She also has specific time goals for the season and was getting close last night. Naomi Fournier and Hope Rovang also ran very well pushing each other. Both dropped a lot of time.  Kenneth Spielman also ran a solid race with a specific strategy. Like Lauren, he was close to his mid-season goal which means he may need to strive for bigger goals. All of the guys ran great races, but Dylan Johnson was another who stood out. He is still learning racing strategy, but he proved how coachable he is with his hill running. He attacked each hill and used them to gain speed. He has come a long way in such a short time.”
