The NDSCS Wildcats came to Fergus Falls on Saturday as the number two ranked football team in NJCAA Division III.  The host Spartans were ranked third in the nation.  The Wildcats led 21-14 heading into the fourth quarter and put nine more points on the board while holding M State scoreless over the final 15 minutes, taking a 30-14 victory.  NDSCS had a huge day defensively, recording six interceptions.

M State had 349 yards of total offense with 278 passing yards and 71 rushing yards.  KJ Cooper completed 18-of-38 passes for 278 yards and one touchdown.  Rashad Madden caught 4 passes for 36 yards, including a touchdown pass.  Marquan Tucker was the leading receiver with 5 catches for 128 yards.  Madden was the leading rusher with 61yards on 9 carries.  Dayvion Teague had an interception and tackle leaders were Joshua Gonleh (15) and Antron Williams (12).

“We made critical mistakes this week in all three phases of the game,” stated M State Head Coach Austin Jones.  “NDSCS is a top notch team and they took advantage of those mistakes.  We have a young team, we’ll learn from this and move forward.  I’d much rather have the guys learn this lesson now than in the playoffs.  What it comes down to is us being more consistent.”

NDSCS running back Roosevelt Cage had 134 yards on 23 carries and a pair of touchdowns.  Chandler Ross ran for 61 yards on 12 attempts with one TD and Weston Snyder had 7 carries for 23 yards, including a TD.  Drew Boxwell was 9-for-18 throwing the football for 134 yards.  Adate’jan Scott hauled in 7 passes for 78 yards to lead the Wildcat receivers.  Defensive leaders were Samuel Miller and Jaden Griffin with 6 and 5 tackles, respectively.  Erik Lumpkin had the lone sack.  Jessie Hawkins, Malique Jackson, Trevion Carothers, Cole Huesers (2) and Miguel Villanueva recorded interceptions.

M State (1-1) will travel to Ely to face Vermilion on Saturday, while NDSCS has the challenge of battling number one ranked College of Dupage.
