The West Central Area volleyball team traveled to Minnewaska Area High School in Glenwood on Thursday night where they posted a competitive 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-19) victory over the Lakers.  “Finally, a sweep for our hard working team,” stated Head Coach Missy Foslien of the lady Knights.  “After Tuesday’s late night versus Melrose, and today being the first day of school for us at WCA, I worried that the girls would have a hard time with the aggressive play that Minnewaska is known for because we were tired.  On paper we are very even with the Lakers.  Tonight, our team was in the zone.”

Leaders were Macy Grosz (34 set assists, 13 digs, 9/10 serving), Mya Foslien (24 digs, 13 kills, 18/19 serving, 1 ace), Madelyn Westrom (19 digs, 7/8 serving), Izzy Puchalski (16 digs, 14/15 serving, 4 aces, 4 kills, 2 blocks), Jaclynn Nelson (8 kills), Whitney Westrom (14/14 serving, 3 aces, 4 kills, 4 digs), Madi Fagre (7 kills, 3 digs), Wylie McNally (3/3 serving, 5 digs) and Alaina Sykora (4/4 serving, 3 digs).

“We set goals on the season and tonight we wanted to focus on aggressive serving,” noted Foslien.  “Whitney Westrom stepped up, along with Izzy Puchalski, combining for 7 ace serves.  We also have stressed that we want to improve our serve reception game, wanting to average above a two, and after several games, all of our passers were averaging two or high tonight.  When you can pass, you can pound.  Mya delivered tonight, firing 13 kills and also playing outstanding defense with 24 digs. It was a fun night all around.  Each set was close, but we were able to keep the Lakers at bay, maintaining the lead in all three sets.”

Next week the lady Knights travel to Benson and BOLD.
