The Fergus Falls Hurricanes were held to just one hit, a 7th inning single by Tosten Mann, as they saw their season come to an end on Friday night at Optimist Park in Litchfield with a 9-1 loss to the Jordan Brewers in the State Amateur Baseball Tournament.  The Canes finish the 2023 season with an overall record of 17-4, a Countryside League Championship and a Region 16C title.

“The Brewer batters worked the count well, forcing our pitchers to throw a lot of pitches and getting some clutch 2-out hits,” reported Fergus Falls Manager Davy Johnson.  “Canes pitchers threw 218 pitches through 9 innings and surrendered 15 hits, although they were all singles.  Canes hitters struggled, striking out 11 times against Tommy Thompson, a former Class B Tournament MVP pitcher.”

Thompson was named Class C Tournament Most Outstanding Pitcher with a 2-0 record, 14 innings pitched, an ERA of 0.64 and 23 strikeouts.  He allowed just one run, walked one batter and gave up 3 hits in his two outings.

Joe Lucas (2-4, 2RBI), Jordan Draheim (2-4, 3R) and Scott Hollingsworth (3-5, R, 4RBI) led the Brewers at the plate.

The Maple Lake Lakers won the Class C Tournament with a 6-4 win over the Bird Island Bullfrogs.  Maple Lake also won the Class C Tourney in 2012, defeating the Canes in the semifinals that year.
