Border West fell behind 16-0 after the first quarter and trailed 30-6 at halftime on Friday as they dropped their season opener to Fertile-Beltrami, 42-12. Fertile-Beltrami had 460 total yards (176 passing, 284 rushing) and Border West finished with 294 total yards (149 passing, 145 rushing). There were no turnovers and only 8 total penalties in the contest.
Border West touchdowns came on a 15 yard pass from Marshall Tolifson to Holden Rinke in the second quarter and a 3 yard run by Brody Nachbor in the fourth quarter.
Tolifson completed 14-of-19 passes for 134 yards and a TD. His leading receiver was Rinke with 6 catches for 69 yards and a score. Nachbor ran for 101 yards on 10 carries, including a TD run.
Border West will play Hancock on Friday night at Minnewaska Area High School in Glenwood.
