Evink Runs for 4 TD's as Owls Rout NCE/Ulen-Hitterdal, 50-14

The Hancock football team compiled 513 yards of offense on Friday night as they opened their season with a 50-14 victory over Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal.  The Owls ran for 434 yards, passed for 79 and collected 22 first downs on the way to the win.  Defensively, Hancock held the Titans to 185 total yards (133 passing, 52 rushing) and 9 first downs.

Chase Evink scored the first touchdown of the night on a 17 yard run in the first quarter for a  6-0 Hancock lead.

An 8 yard run by Winston Schaefer early in the second quarter gave the Owls a 12-0 advantage.  After a 14 yard TD pass by Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal, Hancock quarterback Brady Luthi connected with Nathan Kellenberger on a 53 yard TD pass for an 18-6 lead.  Luthi’s 6 yard run late in the half and Evink’s two-point conversion run, gave Hancock a 26-6 halftime lead.

Evink scored on runs of one yard, 55 yards and 80 yards in the third quarter, and the Titans added a TD on a 30 yard pass and added a two-point conversion, putting the score at 44-14 after three.

Jeremiah Schmidgall’s 35 yard run in the fourth quarter was the final touchdown of the day.

Evink’s monster day saw him run for 323 yards on 21 attempts, finding the end zone 4 times.  Luthi completed 5-of-11 passes for 79 yards and a TD.  Kellenberger led the receiving corps with 2 catches for 58 yards and a score.

The Owls will play Border West on Friday night at Minnewaska Area High School in Glenwood.
