“Hats off to a very good Pelican Rapids team,” said Breckenridge Head Coach Carson Yaggie. “They came out and won the game upfront from on both sides of the football. We have quite a few new starters on the offensive line and they got challenged early. Will be a great learning experience moving forward for them. Bailey Evans played very well for us last night making timely plays to keep us in the game. Defensively our kids played hard. Pelican does a great job of putting kids in tough spots and they got better throughout all 4 quarters. Paul Armitage did a great job for us at linebacker getting to the football on almost every play.”

Evans completed 7-of-14 passes for 48 yards and ran for 94 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.  Jacob Kunkel added a 45 yard run for a TD and Dawson Wienbar caught 5 passes for 37 yards.  Defensively, Armitage was in on a team high 12 tackles, David Erlandson had 6 tackles, Evans had 4 tackles and an interception, and Brian Martinez had 3 tackles and a fumble recovery.

The Cowboys have their home opener on Friday night when they entertain Staples-Motley.

Pelican Rapids will take the long trip to Warroad for a 6:00pm kick-off on Thursday night.
