The Underwood football team hit the road for their season opening game against Clearbrook-Gonvick on Thursday night.  The Rockets fell behind 10-0 on a safety and a 54-yard run, but cut the lead to two points when Drew Evavold scored on a 6 yard run and added the two-point conversion early in the second quarter.  Unfortunately for the visitors that was all the scoring they could muster in a 30-8 loss.

“We had a hard time stopping Clearbrook's offense as they took advantage of some defensive miscues,” stated Underwood Head Coach Ryan Hendrickson.  “We were really looking forward to being able to move the ball on offense this week, we looked good all week in preparation for this game, but the CG defense was really tough.  We will definitely have to clean up a few things before meeting up with Ottertail Central next week.  I was really impressed with our physical play.”

Clearbrook-Gonvick dominated time of possession with 70 offensive plays compared to 43 for Underwood.  The Bears racked up 338 total yards, with 221 coming on the ground.  Underwood finished with 144 yards of offense, 79 rushing, 65 passing.

Evavold completed 5-of-12 passes for 65 yards.  Owen Harig had 3 receptions for 59 yards and led the defense with 8 tackles.  Kale Rich recorded a sack and Gaiden Hoeper had an interception.

The Rockets will host Ottertail Central next Friday night in their home opener.
