Knights Force 6 Second Half Turnovers in 14-8 Opening Night Victory

After a scoreless first half the West Central Area Knights took an 8-0 lead with a third quarter touchdown and two-point conversion, however, Polk County West tied the game early in the fourth quarter.  The Knights responded with a 54-yard TD pass from Brady Lindquist to Sam Hanson for the game winner with just over 8 minutes to play in the game.  WCA forced 6 second half turnovers on the way to the victory.

Lindquist put the Knights on the scoreboard first with a 3 yard TD run, setup by a Samuel Olson fumble recovery.  Adam Lohse hauled in the two-point conversion pass for the 8-0 lead.

The Thunder tied the game after blocking a West Central Area punt, leading to a 6-yard TD run by Mike Gapp and a two-point conversion run by quarterback Will Zavoral.

WCA had 338 yards of offense, with 192 coming on the ground and 146 through the air.  Lindquist completed 10-of-22 passes and Hanson caught 3 of them for 87 yards.  Hunter Gruchow had a team high 72 yards rushing on 12 carries and Nas Dotts ran for 68 yards on 6 first half carries, before leaving the game with an injury.  Hanson added 57 rushing yards on 12 attempts.

Defensively, Weston Ulrich, Owen Gruchow and Hunter Gruchow each had an interception.  Will Rustan added a fumble recovery for the Knights.

The Knights struggled with penalties as they were flagged 13 times for 110 yards.

Gapp carried the ball 21 times for 98 yards to lead Polk County West.
