The Fergus Falls boys’ soccer team traveled to Sartell Thursday night and ran into a very good Sabres team. The Sabers started strong right out of the gate scoring a goal in the first five minutes of play. The Otters held them off for a while but they put 5 more away before the half was finished and went on to post a 9-3 Central Lakes Conference victory.

Fergus did get on the board right at the end of the first half when Aiden Schake crashed the net and got his first goal of the season. The Otters came out in the second half and did a better job defending which opened a couple offensive opportunities. About half way through the second half Jadan Heikes stole the ball at mid field and sent it out to Ryan Nelson who took it up the side and sent a perfect ball forward to Braden Albert who finished beautifully. At about the 78 minute mark of the contest Shane Zierden took a ball from Aidan Godwins goal kick and beat the defense and the goalie to end the scoring for Fergus with 3 goals.

“The Otters fought very hard against a very good opponent,” said Head Coach Joel Heikes. “I am very proud of them for never giving up and finishing strong.”
