The Ottertail Central Bulldogs won their initial contest as a 9-Man football team on Thursday night in Battle Lake as they shutout the Goodridge/Grygla/Gatzke Chargers, 20-0.  OTC had 321 yards of offense with a balanced attack featuring 143 rushing yards and 178 yards through the air.

The Bulldogs went 73 yards on 13 plays after receiving the opening kickoff and capped that drive with a 29 yard TD pass from Jack Mekalson to Teigan Bjerke to take a 6-0 lead.  With just four seconds remaining in the first half, OTC scored on a 5 yard pass from Mekalson to Lane Dilly and added a two-point conversion for a 14-0 halftime lead.  The TD came on the fifteenth play of a 63 yard drive.

The final score of the night was on a one yard quarterback keeper by Mekalson with 9:45 left in the game.

Mekalson completed 12-of-20 passes for 178 yards and also ran for 45 yards on 10 carries.  Tyler Christensen carried the ball 16 times for 48 yards and Dilly had 11 rushing attempts for 36 yards, while hauling in 4 passes for 38 yards.

A Mekalson interception in the end zone late in the game preserved the OTC shutout.  The Bulldogs did not have a turnover in the game.  They will play at Underwood at 7:00pm on Friday, September 8.
