The Alexandria Cardinal Boys Soccer team traveled down I-94 on Thursday for a Central Lakes Conference match up against the Sauk Rapids Rice Storm with the visitors posting a 2-1 victory. While the Cardinals were on a recovery track from some heavy games prior this week, the team came in the first half and matched the intensity of the Storm. The play was good as the ball moved around the pitch. Neither team was able to find a goal in the first half.

The second half opened up more as the Cardinals began to play their style of play which was soon showing some dominance over the Storm. The Cards knew they could play better and chose to show up the second half and control the remainder of the match. The first goal came from a corner kick where Jestin Masteller was able to curve the ball directly into the net in the 50th minute of play. Jestin Masteller was then able to assist Otto Anderson with a goal in the 68th minute of play. The Storm were able to find their lone goal in the 73rd minute of play. When the final whistle blew, the Card came out with a 2-1 win over the Storm.

The Gatorade of the Game went to senior captain Jestin Masteller who played a new role for the team today helping control the middle of the field and was able to find an unassisted goal from a corner kick.

The Cardinal Boys Soccer team is now 2-0-2 on the season and will look to host the Brainerd Warriors on Sept 7 with a 7pm kick off at Viking Bank Field.
