The West Central Area volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-19) loss at the hands of Sauk Centre on Tuesday night in their first dual match and first conference match of the regular season.  “We knew Sauk Centre, being state ranked, would be tough,” acknowledged WCA Head Coach Missy Foslien.  “They have good hitters all-around, and also have subs and JV players that are solid hitters.”

Leaders for the Knights were Mya Foslien (7/7 serving, 18 digs, 12 kills, 1 block), Macy Grosz (5/5 serving, 20 set assists, 6 digs), Izzy Puchalski (15 digs), Wylie McNally (9 digs, 7/7 serving), Madelyn Westrom (9 digs, 3 set assists, 6/6 serving) and Whitney Westrom (12/15 serving, 1 ace, 3 kills).  Jaclynn Nelson and Madi Fagre added 4 and 3 kills, respectively.

“Tonight, we struggled to find another go-to hitter, aside from Mya Foslien, who led the team in both digs and kills,” reported Coach Foslien.  “Our team needs more offensive threats.  The Knights let the Streeters get big leads each set and found themselves fighting to catch up.  It wasn’t that we didn’t play hard, we have some fine tuning to do.  We have to do better on the block.  They are way too good of a team to not get touches on and slow it down so we have a chance to run our offense.  Our serve reception also was a struggle.  When we are only able to set one hitter, it really leaves no challenge for the defense.  With a team like that you have to be able to spread the offense and we just were not able to do that.”

The lady Knights will open their home season on Thursday against Morris.
