Otter Girls Win DL Swimming Pentathlon

The Fergus Falls Girl Swimmers traveled to Detroit Lakes to kick off the season with the annual pentathlon on Monday. For the second year in a row, Fergus Falls finished first out of the five teams that competed. “This is a great way to kick off the season and to see many of the teams the girls will face at sections,” commented Head Coach Rachel Cox.

The Otter Girls Swimmers and Divers will head to Brainerd on Thursday for the first dual meet of the season.

Fergus Falls won the event with 282.5 points and Perham/New York Mills was second with 194. They were followed by Detroit Lakes 110.5, Fosston-Bagley-Crookston 52 and Thief River Falls 41.

Champions for the Otters were Ella Kwapinski in the 50 Back (32.40), and Estee VerSteeg in the 100 IM (1:08.12).  VerSteeg was runner-up in the 50 Breast (35.22) and 50 Free (26.61).

Taylor Ziemke of Perham/New York Mills finished first in the 50 Fly (28.62), 50 Free (26.27) and 50 Breast (34.57).  Ziemke was second in the 100 IM (1:08.99) and Elle McDonald of Perham/New York Mills was runner-up in the 50 Back (32.41).
