Canes Open Class C State Tournament with 4-1 Win Over Chisago Lakes

The Fergus Falls Hurricanes open Class C State Tournament play with a 4-1 win over the Chisago Lakes Bulldogs on Saturday at the Delano Municipal Ballpark.  Starting pitcher Shane Trattles (9IP, 5K, 0BB, 5H, 1R, 0ERr), a draftee from the Sauk Centre Titans, went the distance to gain the win on the mound.

“Shane was dominant on the mound, allowing only 5 singles and one unearned run and no walks in a complete game win,” stated Canes Manager Davy Johnson. “He threw just 100 pitches and was always working ahead in the count.”

The Canes struck for 2 runs in the first inning as Sean McGuire led off with a single and Alex Hensch launched a 383-foot homerun to right center field.

Chisago Lakes cut the lead in half with a run in the top of the fourth.  Adam Brown singled and was forced at second base on a ground by Tyler StilpReed Marquardt singled to left, moving Stilp to second bases.  After a strikeout for the second out of the inning, Nathan Zingerman reached on an infield error, allowing Stilp to score.

The final two runs of the game crossed the plate in the Canes sixth inning.  Hensch singled to lead off the inning and moved to third base on a base hit by Tosten Mann.  A sacrifice fly off the bat of Darin Stanislawski brought Hensch home.  A Pete Gaustad single moved Mann to third base and a he scored on a wild pitch.

The Canes move on to face the Jordan Brewers on Friday night at 7:30pm in Litchfield.  The last time the Canes and Brewers matched up the Canes lost 1-0 in 12 innings in the 2019 Class C State Tournament which Jordan went on to win.
