The 2022 season was another great one for the M State Men’s Golf team, and it also was a banner year for Women’s Golf at M State!  The Men qualified for the NJCAA Division III National Tournament for the 12th consecutive season, and Ellia Soydara had the best season in Women’s golf history at M State, placing 4th individually in the National Tournament.

“We are thrilled to have Ellia back after having a great freshman season for us,” said Spartan Head Coach Jason Retzlaff.  “Nobody works harder on their game and comes more prepared.  It will be fun to watcher continue to get better this year.”

With the loss of Leo Stepan, Mikey Vall, Joel Quam and Braxton Kerstein to graduation, the Men’s team had plenty of open spots on the roster, however, those spots will be filled quite capably by a top-notch, incoming recruiting class.  The class included Erik Bjorndahl (Hillcrest), Charlie Fuder (Fergus Falls), Nathan Hillman (Otter Tail Central), Markus Nelson (Roseau), Brock Thompson (Chisago Lakes) and Adam Vatnsdal (East Grand Forks).

“With Riley Stromlund our only returning player on the Men’s team, we are very excited about a quality recruiting class coming for the fall of 2023,” said Coach Retzlaff.  “Because of our inexperience, it will be interesting to see how we play early in the schedule while getting acclimated to the first weeks of college.  It will be a challenging schedule that includes numerous tournament with four year schools, but I know this group will be excited for the challenge.”

Retzlaff will be assisted by Jeff Haukos for a 19th season.
