Central Lakes Wins Three Tight Sets to Post Win Over Lady Spartans

The M State lady Spartans hosted Central Lakes Community College from Brainerd in a MCAC volleyball contest on Friday night with the Raider prevailing in 3 sets, 25-23, 28-26, 25-22.  The loss leaves M State with an 0-5 record on the season, while Central Lakes improves their season record to 3-2.

Faith Marion (11 kills, 10/10 serving, 12 digs), Kaleigh Sip (8 kills, 2 solo blocks, 1 block assist), Kendra Emery (5 kills, 15/17 serving, 2 aces, 20 digs, 1 solo block), Maddie Ballweg (10 digs), Cassie Dahl (17 set assists, 10/10 serving, 1 ace, 7 digs), Ariana Noplos (9 digs, 11/12 serving, 2 aces, 3 kills), Kaleigh Peterson (11/12 serving, 2 aces, 3 block assists) and Sydney Schaefer (5 set assists, 7/7 serving, 5 digs) all contributed for the lady Spartans.

Central Lakes was led by Kalli Papenfuss and Chesney Phillipp with 9 kills apiece.  Phillipp also had 4 blocks for kills.  Izzy Pennertz (6 kills) and Nana Lopez (6 kills, 2 blocks, 1 ace) led the attack at the net and Libero Jenna Pelnis served up 3 aces in addition to playing outstanding back row defense.

M State jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the first set, however, Central Lakes battled back and pulled even at 17-17.  The Raiders trailed 18-17 when they rattled off six straight points to take a 23-18 lead on the way to the 25-23 victory.  The lady Spartans took a 9-4 lead in the second set and led 13-8 when Central Lakes went on a run that saw them score 10 of the next 12 points to open up an 18-15 lead.   M State survived set point at 24-23 and then served set point at 25-24 and again at 26-25, but couldn’t finish off the set.  Central Lakes scored the final 3 points to take a 2-0 advantage in the match.  M State fell behind 22-13 in the third set but caught fire with Ariana Noplos at the serving line as they rattled off 9 straight points, pulling to within one at 23-22.  The Raiders were able to break her service run to reach set point and ended the match with a 25-22 win.

M State will host Minnesota West in their next match on Wednesday in Fergus Falls.
