In 2022 the Border West Buccaneers excelled on the gridiron, ending up with a 12-1 overall record and a perfect 8-0 District record on the way to a Section 4-9 Man championship, winning their state quarterfinal game against Red Rock Central, 37-0, and playing a state semifinal contest at US Bank Stadium to end their season, falling to Mountain Iron-Buhl, 36-15.  As Head Coach James Paul enters his eighth season, the Bucs are poised for another strong season in 2023.

“Our strength is our balance between athleticism and size,” said Coach Paul.  “Our weakness will be finding the pieces to fill in the puzzle with many starters from last year gone and so many new players this year.  Our expectation is to compete for a District and Section title and those are also goals.”

Returning starters for the Bucs are seniors Jack Siegel (OL/DL), Marshall Tolifson (QB), Tyler Groebner (RB/LB), Kevin Casper (WR/LB), and juniors Brody Nachbor (RB/DB), Brayden Andrews (WR/DB), Holden Rinke (WR/LB) and Aiden Sigler (OL/DL).  Junior Jude Olson (WR/LB/DB) will step into a starting varsity role as well.

Paul will be assisted by Chris Falk (Defensive Coordinator), Jeff Olsen (Special Teams Coordinator), Ben Blees, Paul Frisch, Shawn Shay and Mark Hormann.

Paul says Hancock and Ottertail Central are the teams to beat in Section 4-9 Man.
