The Hawley Nuggets are coming off a strong volleyball season that saw them finish with an 18-11 record, beating Perham in their sub-section finals before losing to Barnesville in the Section finale.  Hawley lost All-Conference Middle Hitter Anna Steer to graduation.  Former Nugget Grace Fleming is a sophomore playing volleyball at Concordia College in Moorhead.  Head Coach Kathleen Rustad is now in her fourth year.  She is assisted by Nicole Martin (Junior Varsity), Paige Thompson (B Team) and Anna Steer (C Team).

Returning letter winners are senior Leah Tibbets (Right Side) juniors Ingrid Rustad (Setter) and Isabel Steer (Middle Hitter), sophomores Hannah Stotts (Defensive Specialist), Annaka Johnson (Middle Hitter), McKenna Walker and Sella Fleming (Setter), and ninth-grader Katie Vetter (Outside Hitter/Defensive Specialist).

Key newcomers are junior Hailey Jelinek and sophomores Sidney Martin and Mallory Halvorson.

“Our strength will be our team unity,” said Coach Rustad.  “We play well together and know each other on the court.  These girls have been playing together for several years.”

Rustad says Perham will be the main challenger to the Nuggets in both the Heart O’ Lakes Conference and Section 8AA.
