The DGF football team is coming off an exceptional 2022 season that saw them finish with a 12-1 record, claiming the Midwest District Red and Section 8AAA titles on the way to a runner-up finish in the Class 3A State playoffs.  Head Coach Tony Soderberg returns for a 16th season at the helm.

Seniors Nick Waale (RB/LB), Aiden Edeen (OL/DL), Brody Friend (RB/DB) and Brody O’Keefe (TE/DL) will serve as team captains.  They are joined by seniors Thomas Thureen (TE/LB) and Bodey Devries (RB/LB), and juniors Casey Macziewski (RB/LB), Caleb Johnson (QB/LB) and Ethan Hellerude (RB/LB) as returning starters for the Rebels.

Waale is coming off a season that saw him carry the ball 79 times for 416 yards and 3 TD’s.  Friend averaged 7.6 yards per carry and found the end zone 4 times.  O’Keefe (14 receptions, 256 yards, 18.3 ypc, 3 TDs) and Waale (10 catches, 256 yards, 25.6 ypc, 4 TDs) were the leading receivers.

Other players to watch include senior Josh Dudgeon (OL/DL), and juniors Kade Swenson (WR/DB), Bodie Musof (OL/DL), Bryce Steen (OL/DL), Dylan Bitker (TE/LB) and Tommy Rehder (WR/LB).

“The 2023 DGF football squad returns a good mix of starters on both sides of the ball from last year,” said Coach Soderberg.  “We return a lot of experience at the skill positions on both sides of the ball and have decent experience up front.  We have a couple of holes to fill like any year, but we have the kids to do that.  The strength of this team will be the defensive side of the ball, especially at the linebacker level, and at the running back position on offense.  If we stay healthy and come together as a team, I expect the Rebels to have a good season.”
