The Fergus Falls Hurricanes won the Region 16C Championship on Saturday with a 5-4 ten-inning victory over the Carlos Cougars at Chauncey Martin Field in Pelican Rapids.  Both teams will move on to the 100th Annual Amateur Baseball Tournament with games scheduled to be played in Dassel, Delano and Litchfield.

On Friday night in Pelican Rapids, Sauk Centre eliminated Urbank, 10-6, and on Saturday, Carlos punched their ticket to the State Tournament with a 1-0 win over Sauk Centre, setting up their Region 16C championship match with Fergus Falls.

Darin Stanislawski went all 10 innings for the Canes on Saturday, striking out 16 batters and walking none to earn his seventh win in eight decisions this season.  “Darin pitched a great game without his best stuff,” stated Canes Manager Davy Johnson.  “Darin was named Region 16C MVP, pitching 21 innings, striking out 33 batters, walking 3 and allowing 5 earned runs on 11 hits.  He also went 6-for-17 at the plate with a homer, five runs batted in and two runs scored.”

Carlos took a 2-0 lead on a 2-run homer by Devan Swerman in the top of the first inning and the Canes cut the lead in half when they pushed across a 2-out run in the bottom of the inning on a pair of walks and single and a wild pitch.

A 3-run fifth put Fergus Falls in front, 4-2.  Sean McGuire doubled to lead-off the inning and moved to third on a single by Alex Hensch.  Tosten Mann drove home McGuire with a base hit and Hensch scored on a ground ball off the bat of Stanislawski when he beat the throw home and Stanislawski reached first base safely.  After a fly out and a line out, Thomas Bosek singled to score Mann.

Carlos trimmed the lead to 4-3 on a 2-out solo homer by Grady Anderson in the sixth, and tied the game in the ninth when Anderson led off with a double was bunted to third base and scored on a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the tenth, Austin Stanislawski and Owen Krueger reached on one-out singles.  After a strikeout, Hensch reached base on an infield error, loading the bases.  Mann stepped up and delivered a walk-off base hit, scoring Austin Stanislawski with the game winning run.

Mann (2-5, 2R, 2RBI), Carter Thielke (1-2, 3BB) and Bosek (2-5, RBI) led the Canes at the plate.

The Cougars were led by Anderson (2-4, 2B, HR, 2R, RBI) and Lake Hagen (3-4).

The Canes drafted pitchers Shane Traggles and Brian Buening from Sauk Centre and Carter Stockert from Alexandria, while Carlos drafted Hunter Haggenmiller from Urbank, Mitch Porter from Breckenridge, and Tate Breitkreutz from Alexandria.
