Fergus Falls 14U Babe Ruth Team Qualifies for 15U Intact State Tournament with Runner-Up Finish in District Tourney

The Fergus Falls 14U Babe Ruth Baseball team has qualified for the State 15U Intact Tournament in Bemidji this coming weekend.  They advanced by placing second last weekend in the Babe Ruth 15U Intact District Tournament, winning four of the six games they played.

Game 1
Fergus Falls Otters 14u fell to Breckenridge Cowboys 14U 5-4 on Thursday. 

Breckenridge Cowboys 14U got on the board in the top of the fourth inning after Tucker Snyder singled, and Avery Smith walked, each scoring one run. 

Fergus Falls Otters 14u tied the game in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a sacrifice fly by Logan Schoon, and a single by Kadyn Zender

Breckenridge Cowboys 14U took the lead in the top of the sixth inning after Conner Ernst walked, Jaxson Lopez singled, and Quenten Lugert singled, each scoring one run. 

Josh Horgen stepped on the hill first for Fergus Falls Otters 14u. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and two runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking three. Lugert started on the hill for Breckenridge Cowboys 14U. They gave up five hits and two runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out three and walking two. 

Number eight hitter, Schoon, showed the depth of Fergus Falls Otters 14u's lineup, by leading them with two hits in two at bats. Caleb Fronning stole two bases. Fergus Falls Otters 14u turned one double play in the game. 

Game 2
Brody Krein drove in five runs on three hits to lead Fergus Falls Otters 14u past PRBA Red 14-4 on Friday. Krein singled in the fourth scoring two, singled in the first scoring one, hit a sacrifice fly in the second scoring one, and singled in the fifth scoring one. 

PRBA Red got on the board in the top of the first inning after #7 singled, Fergus Falls Otters 14u committed an error, and #15 singled, each scoring one run.

Fergus Falls Otters 14u jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the second inning after Krein hit a sacrifice fly, and Nolan Felstul doubled, each scoring one run. 

Fergus Falls Otters 14u scored six runs on seven hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Krein singled, scoring two runs, Felstul singled, scoring one run, Jacob Jenc singled, scoring one run, Field grounded out, scoring one run, and Benett Thielke singled, scoring one run. 

Jenc started the game for Fergus Falls Otters 14u. The right-handed pitcher allowed eight hits and four runs (zero earned) over four innings, striking out five and walking one. #18 stepped on the hill first for PRBA Red. The starting pitcher surrendered nine hits and 10 runs (eight earned) over three innings, striking out one and walking none. Felstul pitched two innings of zero-run ball for Fergus Falls Otters 14u in relief. The righty gave up one hit, striking out none and walking none. 

Fergus Falls Otters 14u piled up 12 hits in the game. Caleb Fronning and Felstul each collected multiple hits for Fergus Falls Otters 14u. Fronning, Hunter Welle, Kadyn Zender, and Felstul each stole multiple bases for Fergus Falls Otters 14u. Fergus Falls Otters 14u stole 11 bases in the game. Fergus Falls Otters 14u turned one double play in the game. 

Game 3
Fergus Falls Otters 14u were victorious against Central Minnesota Babe Ruth League Panthers 15U 5-1 on Friday. 

Fergus Falls Otters 14u got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Jacob Jenc hit into a fielder's choice, and Josh Horgen hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run. 

Fergus Falls Otters 14u added one run in the second. Brody Krein hit into a fielder's choice, making the score 3-0. 

Fergus Falls Otters 14u added two runs in the third. Logan Schoon singled, making the score 5-1. 

Krein began the game for Fergus Falls Otters 14u. They gave up two hits and one run over three innings, striking out two and walking two. Hudson Truax started on the hill for Central Minnesota Babe Ruth League Panthers 15U. They gave up 10 hits and five runs over six innings, striking out one and walking two. Caleb Fronning and Nolan Felstul each threw scoreless innings for Fergus Falls Otters 14u in relief.

Fergus Falls Otters 14u amassed 10 hits in the game. Fergus Falls Otters 14u's Schoon made the most of their chances at the plate. The number eight hitter led the team with three hits in three at bats. Krein collected two hits for Fergus Falls Otters 14u in four at bats. Fronning stole two bases.

Game 4
Caleb Fronning collected three hits in four at bats, as Fergus Falls Otters 14u defeated Breckenridge Cowboys 14U 5-3 on Saturday. Fronning singled in the fourth inning, singled in the second inning, and singled in the fifth inning. 

Breckenridge Cowboys 14U got on the board in the first inning after an error scored one run. 

Fronning singled, which helped Fergus Falls Otters 14u tie the game at one in the bottom of the second. 

In the bottom of the fourth, Fergus Falls Otters 14u broke up the tie when Fronning singled, scoring two runs. Then a single by Jacob Jenc followed to extend the lead to 4-1.

Game 5
Caleb Fronning collected three hits in four at bats, as Fergus Falls Otters 14u defeated Alexandria Cardinals AAA 14U 7-6 on Saturday. Fronning singled in the fifth inning, singled in the sixth inning, and singled in the first inning. 

Fergus Falls Otters 14u got on the board in the first inning after Nolan Felstul hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run. 

Fergus Falls Otters 14u committed an error, which helped Alexandria Cardinals AAA 14U tie the game at one in the bottom of the first. 

In the bottom of the third, Alexandria Cardinals AAA 14U broke up the tie when Connor Anderson singled, scoring one run. Then a walk by Braum Peterson followed to extend the lead to 3-1. 

Fergus Falls Otters 14u tied the game in the top of the sixth thanks to a single by Logan Schoon, a sacrifice fly by Kadyn Zender, and a single by Fronning. 

In the top of the seventh, Fergus Falls Otters 14u broke up the tie when Hunter Welle drew a walk, scoring one run. Then a wild pitch followed to extend the lead to 7-5. 

Josh Horgen pitched three innings in relief for Fergus Falls Otters 14u. The righty surrendered one hit and two runs (one earned) while, striking out one and walking three. Fronning stepped on the bump first for Fergus Falls Otters 14u. The starting pitcher allowed three hits and three runs (zero earned) over two innings, striking out none and walking four. Brody Brandt opened the game for Alexandria Cardinals AAA 14U. The starting pitcher gave up four hits and two runs over five innings, striking out two and walking two. 

Schoon collected two hits for Fergus Falls Otters 14u in four at bats. Fronning stole two bases. Fergus Falls Otters 14u turned two double plays in the game.

Game 6
Fergus Falls Otters 14u lost to PRBA Blue 8-6 on Saturday even though they once led by four runs. 

Fergus Falls Otters 14u got on the board in the top of the first inning after Caleb Fronning scored after tagging up, PRBA Blue committed an error, and PRBA Blue committed an error, each scoring one run. 

An error extended the Fergus Falls Otters 14u lead to 4-0 in the top of the second inning. 

PRBA Blue flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fourth, scoring six runs on three hits to take a 7-4 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was an error that drove in three.

Benett Thielke opened the game for Fergus Falls Otters 14u. The right-handed pitcher gave up five hits and six runs (three earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking five. #4 started the game for PRBA Blue. The starting pitcher allowed two hits and four runs (two earned) over one and one-third innings, striking out none and walking two. 

Larry Field went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Fergus Falls Otters 14u in hits. Josh Horgen led Fergus Falls Otters 14u with two runs batted in.
