Fergus Falls American Legion Post 30 traveled to Perham for the Sub State 14 playoffs, opening up against the number one seeded team, Bemidji on Wednesday.  Bemidji posted a 12-0 win over Post 30.  “Give Bemidji credit, they took advantage of every base that was given to them,” stated Fergus Falls Head Coach Trevor Larson.  “They are a great hitting team with six starters going to play college baseball next season.  The margin for error against good teams like that is very slim.”

Ethan Gronwold started on the mound but left after the first inning.  Owen Krueger finished the final 3 innings.  Leading hitters for Post 30 were Ben Swanson (1-1, BB), Krueger (1-2) and Leighton Buckmeier (1-2).

Post 30 threatened in the top half of the first inning as singles by Swanson and Krueger put two runners on base with two outs.  Gronwold hit a ball hard up the middle, only to see the Bemidji shortstop make a great play to save two runs.  Bemidji blew the game open with a 7 run second inning.

“Our defense played well, committing zero errors, but Bemidji kept having good at bats as the game went on,” noted Coach Larson.  “We look towards Thursday to bounce back and have some fun on the diamond.”

Post 30 will face East Grand Forks in an elimination game at 11:00am Thursday.  East Grand lost a tight 5-4 contest to Detroit Lakes in the opening round.  Other first round scores saw second-seeded Moorhead trounce Brainerd, 14-4, and sixth-seeded Perham knock off number three seeded Alexandria, 4-3.
