The Fergus Falls Hurricanes clinched first place in the Countryside League with an 8-5 victory over the Dilworth Raildogs on Wednesday night at American Legion Field at DeLagoon Park in Fergus Falls.  The Raildogs scored 5 times in the top of the first inning, however, Fergus Falls answered with 3 in the bottom of the first and scored single runs in the second, third, fourth, fifth and eighth innings to secure the win.  Darin Stanislawski (9IP, 9K, 4BB, 11H, 5R, 3ER) survived a shaky first inning and went the distance to pick up the win.

Dilworth scored their first inning runs on a two-out, 2-run double by Jacob Hendrickson bringing in two, an Andrew Linn single, an error and a base hit by Bryce Venaas.

For the Canes in the bottom of the first, Alex Hensch led off with a single, Tosten Mann was hit by a pitch, Darin Stanislawski delivered a RBI single and RBI singles from Pete Gaustad and Owen Krueger brought home the other two runs.  In the second inning, Carter Thielke singled with one out and took second on a wild pitch.  Stanislawski reached on an infield single and a throwing error on the play allowed Thielke to score, cutting the Dilworth lead to 5-4.  The Canes tied the game in the third when walks to Gaustad, Austin Stanislawski and Brandon Brown loaded the bases.  Gaustad then scored on a wild pitch.  Fergus Falls took the lead in the fourth when Mann led off with a triple and scored on a Darin Stanislawski ground out.  A lead-off triple by Austin Stanislawski and a single by Hensch made it 7-5 in the fifth and the final run came across in the eighth when Mann singled with 2 outs and scored on a double by Darin Stanislawski.

Leading hitters were Hensch (2-5, RBI), Mann (3-4, 3R, 3B, SB), and Darin Stanislawski (3-5, 2B, 3 RBI).

Dilworth was led by Connor Robley (2-4), Jacob Hendrickson (2-4, 2 2B, 2RBI), Linn (2-4, RBI) and Venaas (2-4, RBI).

“After a rough top of the first, D-Stan settled in and shutout the Raildogs for 8 innings and the Canes chipped away at the lead,” noted Manager Davy Johnson.  “We played well again defensively, turning 3 double plays to keep the Raildogs from crossing home plate after the first inning.”

Next games for the Canes are Friday at 7:30pm at Breckenridge and Sunday at 1:30pm at Dent to round out the regular season.

The Canes are now 10-3 overall and 9-0 in league play.
