Perham Opens Sub-State 14 Legion Baseball Tournament with 4-3 Win Over Alexandria

The Perham Buzz took a 4-0 lead against Alexandria in the Sub-State 14 American Legion Baseball Tournament on Wednesday and then held on for a 4-3 victory in their opening round game.  The Buzz banged out 10 hits in the game and Ashton Detloff (6IP, 7H, 3ER, 4BB, 7K) earned the victory on the mound.  Austin Aanenson pitched the seventh, striking out one and walking one to pick up the save.

Offensive leaders were Ben Shumansky (3-4, 2 2B, R), Detloff (1-4, RBI), Blaiz Schmidt (1-3, 2B, BB, R), Gage Aanenson (1-3, BB, R), Seth Urbach (1-4, R) and Gavin Griffin (1-3, RBI).

Perham will now face Moorhead on Thursday at 6:30pm.  Moorhead posted a 14-4 victory over Brainerd in their first round contest.  The other winner’ bracket matchup on Thursday will feature top-seeded Bemidji, a 12-0 winner over Fergus Falls, against fourth-seeded Detroit Lakes.  DL won their opening round game against East Grand Forks, 5-4.

Elimination games will have East Grand Forks and Fergus Falls squaring off at 11:00am, and Brainerd taking on Alexandria at 1:30pm.  All games at Al Krueger Field at Tuffy’s Stadium in Perham.
