Thielke Hurls 3-Hit Shutout as Canes Blank DL 14-0

The Fergus Falls Hurricanes shutout the Detroit Lakes Ligers, 14-0, on Sunday afternoon at American Legion Field at DeLagoon Park in Fergus Falls.  The Canes banged out 12 hits in the game, while winning pitcher Carter Thielke (7IP, 7K, 1BB, 3H, 0R) held the Ligers to just 3 hits.

Fergus Falls scored 5 times in the second inning to take an early lead.  Darin Stanislawski led off with a single and moved to second base on a balk.  Darin took third base on a wild pitch as Alex Hexum was walked.  Another wild pitch allowed Stanislawski to score and moved Hexum to second.  Austin Stanislawski then scored Hexum with a base hit.  Owen Krueger moved Austin to third with a single and with two outs Sean McGuire doubled in 2 runs.  Thielke reached on an infield error with McGuire coming in to score the fifth run of the inning.

A 9-run sixth inning put the game out of reach.  With one out, Krueger and Brandon Brown singled.  After a pop out, McGuire walked to load the bases.  Thielke reached base on an error with two runs scoring.  Tosten Mann singled to fill the bases and Darin Stanislawski reached on an error with 2 more runs scoring.  Alex Hexum walked to load the bases again and Austin Stanislawski drove in 2 runs with a base hit.  Krueger delivered a run-scoring single and Brown knocked in two more with a base hit as the Canes scored 9 runs on 6 hits and 3 errors in the inning.

Leading hitters for Fergus Falls were McGuire (1-3, 2B, 2R, 2RBI), Austin Stanislawski (2-4, 2R, 3RBI) and Krueger (3-4, 3R, RBI).

Fergus Falls improves to 9-3 overall and 8-0 in league play.
