Fergus Falls American Legion Post 30 won a slugfest with Casselton on Sunday as they recorded a 10-7 win to claim the Consolation Championship at the Casselton, North Dakota Tournament.  Logan Larson (3IP, 3H, 4R, 3ER, 3BB, 2K), Riston Albert (3IP, 2H, 1R, 0ER, 1BB, 5K) and Owen Krueger (1IP, 4H, 2R, 2ER, 1K) all pitched for Post 30 with Albert picking up the win and Krueger earning the save.

Leading hitters for Post 30 were Carston Fronning (3-3, RBI, BB), Brock Scheurman (2-3, 2B, 2RBI) and Krueger (1-3, 2B, 2RBI).

Casselton jumped out to a 4-1 lead after 3 innings, scoring 3 runs in the 3rd inning via 2 hits, one hit batter and a walk.  Post 30 loaded the bases in the 1st and 3rd innings with two outs, but couldn’t find the big hit to bring the game closer.

The game remained 4-1 until the top of the 6th when Fergus Falls erupted for 9 runs to take a 10-4 lead.  Scheurman led off with a hit by pitch, Colin Becker walked, and Fronning singled to center field to load the bases with nobody out.  Leighton Buckmeier and Evan Lindgren delivered back-to-back RBI singles to cut the lead to 4-3.  Consecutive walks to Ben Swanson and Ethan Gronwold pushed the score to 5-4 in favor of Post 30.  Krueger then came up big with a double down the left field line to score both Larson and Swanson.  Scheurman doubled to deep center field, bringing home Gronwold and Krueger, and Fronning capped the inning with a RBI triple to right field.

Casselton pushed one run across in the 6th and added two more in the 7th to finish the scoring.

“Very happy with how we finished the tournament,” commented Fergus Falls Head Coach Trevor Larson.  “Our at bats kept getting better each game as the tournament went on, with everyone in the lineups making contributions.  Riston came on in relief of Logan and did a fantastic job of throwing strikes and giving our offense a chance to claw back into the ballgame.  Our defense had a couple of errors, but also made a couple of highlight reel plays with Lindgren making a diving catch as shortstop and getting up to double up the runner at 2nd base.  Will Gronwold has stepped up and played a great left field for us.  Will made a leaping catch in left to end the game today.”

Post 30 returns to action at home on Tuesday against Wadena and on Wednesday against Alexandria.
