Perham Baseball End of Season Awards Presented

The Perham baseball team had a tremendous season as they went undefeated (12-0) in winning the Heart O’ Lakes Conference Championship, won the Section 8AA title and finished as Minnesota Class AA State Runners-up.  They also earned the Minnesota State High School Baseball Coaches Association honor of being a Gold Standard Academic All-State team with a Team GPA of 3.66.

Several new all-time team records were established, including at bats (779), triples (10), defensive putouts (566), defensive assists (188), pitching wins (24) and team wins (24).

Evan Kovash and Blaiz Schmidt were named to the All-State Tournament team, while Kovash (3.94GPA) and Ben Shumansky (3.84) earned MSHSBCA Individual Academic All-State honors.  Shumansky was named to the MSHSBCA All-State team and the MSHSBCA North All-Start team.

The Yellowjackets were represented on the 8AA All-Section team by Ashton Detloff, Austin Schmelz, Kovash, Schmidt and Shumansky.  Coach James Mulcahy was named Section 8AA Coach of the Year.

Kovash was named Heart O’ Lakes Conference Player of the Year and Detloff was selected as HOL Pitcher of the Year.

First Team HOL All-Conference selections were Kovash, Detloff, Gage Aanenson, Schmelz, Schmidt and Shumanksy, while HOL All-Conference Honorable Mention status was awarded to Gamble Bye, Gavin Griffin, Brock Melgard and Seth Urbach.

New All-Time Individual Records were set by Shumansky in at bats (253), hits (110), RBI (88) and defensive putouts (528).
