Fergus Falls American Legion Post 30 hosted Perham’s Legion team on Thursday night for a District double header.  Both games proved to be tight games, decided in extra innings or in the 7th inning with Perham taking game one, 9-3 in 8 innings, and Post 30 winning 4-3 in game two.

Riston Albert started game one on the mound and went the first 4 2/3 innings, allowing 3 hits, walking six, giving up 3 earned runs and striking out 5.  Sammy Holmes JR came on in relief and with 3 1/3 innings, allowing 6 runs, none of which were earned, and giving up 4 hits.

Leading hitters were Evan Lindgren (3-5, RBI) and Colin Becker (1-3, 2B, 2RBI).

The game was tied going into the bottom of the seventh.  Post 30 loaded the bases with nobody out, but failed to push the winning run across.  Perham scored 6 runs in the top of the 8th on 3 hits and 3 Fergus Falls errors.

Isaac Ellison (7IP, 3R, 1ER, 5H, 1BB, 8K) started on the mound for us in game two and was outstanding, pitching a complete game,” reported Fergus Falls Head Coach Trevor Larson.  “He did a fantastic job as he was efficient and went right after batters.  Our defense played great in game two.  Evan Lindgren made every play look routine.”

Perham led 3-0 until the bottom of the fifth when Post 30 struck for four runs off of 5 hits and a Perham error.  The game was 3-1 with runners on 2nd and 3rd with two outs when Ben Swanson singled to center field, scoring both runners.  Colin Becker then doubled to deep right field to score Swanson with what proved to be the winning run.

Perham threatened in the top of the 7th, putting a runner on 3rd with one out.  Ellison buckled down and struck out the last two batters to finish his complete game victory.

Swanson (1-3, 2RBI), Owen Krueger (1-3, RBI) and Lindgren (2-3) were the top hitters for Post 30.

“As a coaching staff, we were very happy with how the boys responded in game two,” noted Coach Larson.  “It would have been easy to sulk and not give their best effort.  The boys had great energy and grit to gain the split.”

Post 30 returns to action next Tuesday when they host Brainerd.
