Canes Participate in Elrosa Tournament

The Fergus Falls Hurricanes took 4th Place at the Elrosa Tournament his past weekend.  The Canes started the tournament with a 7-2 win over Brookings, South Dakota on Saturday afternoon, lost their semifinal game Saturday night by the score of 6-3 to the host Elrosa Saints, and then lost a 6-0 decision to the Bluffton Braves in the 3rd Place game on Sunday afternoon.

Darin Stanislawski improved his season record to 4-0 on the mound in the win over Brookings.  Stanislawski struck out 10 batters, walked one, allowed 4 hits and gave up just one earned run.  Hitting leaders for the Canes were Stanislawski (2-3, 2 2B, 2R, RBI), Thomas Bosek (2-2, 2R, RBI) and Alex Hensch (2-4, R).  Tosten Mann hit a solo home run in the contest.

Peyton Van Beck was dominant on the mound for Elrosa in the semifinal round, fanning 17 batters and allowing only 2 hits, singles by Sean McGuire and Mann.  Alex Hensch drew a walk.  Alex Hexum was nearly as good on the mound for Fergus Falls, allowing only 3 singles and 1 earned run, while striking out 7.

The Canes managed only 6 hits in the 3rd Place game and Bluffton had 13 hits.  The Braves were led at the plate by winning pitcher Peyton Rondestvedt (3-4, 2 2B, R), Logan Pulju (3-3, R, 2RBI) and Justin Dykhoff (2-4, HR, 2RBI).  Rondestvedt turned in a complete game effort with 5 strikeouts and one walk in seven innings of work.  Carter Thielke (3.2IP, 7K, 1BB, 10H, 6ER) took the loss for the Canes.  McGuire (2.1IP, 4K, 2BB, 3H, 0R) pitched well in relief.

Elrosa won the championship with a 4-2 win over the New London-Spicer Twins. 

The Canes next game is at Hawley at 4:00pm on Sunday.
