Alexandria Head Coach Tim Zupfer filed this report on the tournament.
Wednesday marked the end of the high school golf season.  We had 3 golfers from the Cardinals that participated in the State AAA Golf Tournament.  This event was held Tuesday June 13th and Wednesday June 14th at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids.  Sophomore Rachel Bowen, Senior Aisling O'Connor, and Senior Hannah Boraas represented Alexandria.  All three of these players were also members of the 2021 and 2022 Championship Teams.

Rachel was playing in this event for the third time.  She posted 9 hole scores of 45 and 48, for a score of 93 on Tuesday.  She followed that up with scores of 42 and 44, for a score of 86 on Wednesday.  Her 2-day total placed her tied for 67th individually in the event. It was nice to see her have more success the 2nd day of the event.  We will be counting on her to be a leader on our golf team the next 2 years!

Aisling was also playing in this event for the third time.  She posted 9 hole scores of 40 and 45, for a score of 85 on Tuesday.  She followed that up with scores of 43 and 41, for a score of 84 on Wednesday.  Her 2-day total placed her tied for 46th individually.  Aisling saved her best play of the tournament for her final hole.  She had a wonderful up and down from the green side bunker for par to end her high school playing career!  Aisling has been a varsity player all six years, as she joined the varsity team in 7th grade.

Hannah was playing in this event for the 5th time.  She has qualified to play in this event every year, since she joined the varsity in 7th grade.  (Most likely would have been 6 times, but we lost a season to COVID.)  Hannah posted 9 hole scores of 38 and 38, for a score of 76 on Tuesday.  She followed that with scores of 39 and 38, for a total of 77 on Wednesday.  Her 2-day total placed her in a tie for 10th place individually.  Hannah enjoyed the opportunity to play with some of the best individual golfers in the state each day.  She more than held her own, often hitting her drives farther in the fairway than her opponents.  She regrets not putting a little better, but still enjoyed a very successful end to her high school golfing career.

This wraps up a very successful season for the Cardinal Girls Golf Team.  The team had 5 players earn all-conference status, and 1 player earn honorable mention all-conference status.  The team was the Central Lakes Conference Champion and the Section 8AAA runner up.  We already have players practicing and playing in summer tournaments.  The future looks bright!

Much of our success is a result of a school district and community that supports our golf programs.  Geneva Golf Club, Alexandria Golf Club, and the Scott Dirck Golf Academy have allowed us to use their facilities.  We offer our thanks to the staff and members of all of these facilities!
